Application guidelines

Old Possum’s Practical Trust makes a number of grants each year for literary, artistic, musical and theatrical projects.

Unfortunately, the numbers of requests for grants greatly outnumber the available funds each year and the Trustees must, therefore, select those they feel are most appropriate. To keep administration costs to a minimum the Trust does not give reasons for unsuccessful applications - so in the event that your funding request is not granted, please do not try to contact us further.

Please read carefully the notes below before you complete the on-line form. You may wish to download a copy of the questions you will be asked before you begin.

Grants are more likely to be given for projects which fall within artistic, aesthetic, literary, musical and theatrical criteria. All applications must demonstrate a high level of sustainability and contextual impact. Priority will be given to those which have an impact on future literary work and display enterprise in their artistic endeavour.

Unless your application closely follows these criteria it is unlikely that you will be the beneficiary of a grant. Funds will not normally be granted for:

  • activities or projects already completed
  • capital building projects
  • personal training and education eg: tuition or living costs for college or university
  • projects outside the UK
  • medical care or resources
  • feasibility studies
  • national charities having substantial amounts of potential funding likely from other sources

The amount of each grant usually falls within the range of £500 - £5,000. The Trustees do, however, retain the right to give discretionary grants, and development grants, outside the criteria listed above, but do so only in exceptional circumstances.
